FIVE DRIVERS RIDE GOODYEAR TIRES TO IHRA VICTORY
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (March 19, 2006) -- Drivers racing on Goodyear tires won five times in International Hot Rod Association competition at the Amalie Oil Texas Nationals at San Antonio Raceway.
The event was part of the eMax Drag Racing Series and included some of the top names in drag racing.
The drivers winning on Goodyear rubber included Doug Foley (in Top Fuel), Gary Densham (Funny Car), Glen Kerunsky (Pro Mod), Frank Gugliotta (Pro Stock) and Cris Pogue (Quick Rod).
Foley's victory in the final round of Top Fuel came at the expense of Clay Millican. Foley won with a pass lasting 4.585 seconds. He was clocked at 321.27 mph.
Densham beat Paul Lee in the Funny Car final, but he defeated Terry Haddock and Cruz Pedregon on his way to the final round. His pass in the title race was timed at 4.850 seconds and clocked at 300.20 mph.
Kerunsky's Pro Mod win came in a Chevrolet Bel Air. He final round lap was 6.191 seconds long and 230.69 mph.
The Pro Stock win went to Gugliotta's Ford Escort. He turned a lap of 6.490 seconds and 216.55 mph.
Pogue drove a dragster to victory in Quick Rod, finishing in 8.926 seconds. He went through the speed trap at 167.78 mph.
