Steve Vick lowers mark in testing

DARLINGTON, SC - Pro Modified racer Steve Vick likes the pizzaman method of drag racing because he likes to deliver. The 36-year old, clutch specialist from Mocksville, NC., took no prisoners in the second day of testing during the 3rd annual Majesty Homes Groundhog Warm-up presented by 1320 Web Services. After spending much of the day with his motor apart trying to pinpoint an internal problem, he emerged with the problem solved and blasted out a 6.249/224.55

The run solidifies his quickest nitrous standing among the Pro Modified fraternity.

"I watched a lot of people run good today and I felt left out," Vick explained. "Nah, seriously, I didn't go far away from where we were at when last season ended. I am really enthused about this because it lets us know that we are headed on the right track with this car."

Vick knew that with the new weight losses on his machine, plus some other factors that he would fare well.

"You never want to expect these things, but we kind of had it in the back of our minds," Vick explained. I knew it was going to run if I could ever get enough clutch in it. When I pulled second gear I knew this was going to be a good one. I knew it would be in the 6.20s, I honestly didn't expect a 6.24."

Vick's run was stout from the start. His progressives indicated a 1.043 sixty-footer and a 4.085/181.74 eighth-mile.

Vick established himself as the quickest nitrous-injected entry at last season's IHRA CARQUEST Autumn Nationals with a 6.267. He also won two national events in 2000.
