Interview with '94 DTM champion Klaus Ludwig

Q: Klaus, You are called "King of the Ring". Have you got any kind of home advantage or technical advantage here at the Nurburgring?"

KL: "Of course not. But I've got to admit: I've had a lot of good results on this race track. The most of the Nurburgring races have ended very positive for me."

Q: "But Nurburgring weekends are special for you, aren't they?"

KL: "Okay, I've got my son Nico with me, and it may be an advantage to spend the night in your own bed. This may mean, you sleep better and more relaxed. When I leave the paddock in the evening, I can reach my hunting lodge within minutes and relax for an hour or two - this may be another small advantage. But this doesn't decide a race. More important is, who has got the fastest car and the best tyres."

Q: "What about your car and tyres?"

KL: "A difficult question. Still I'm not sure if I made the right decision concerning the tyres. Because of a broken engine I couldn't use the second free practice session for a tyre test. So I hope, my tyre choice was a good one, but the times achieved by Mercedes inspite of their handicap weights are really impressive."

Q: "Now, when the season enters it's decicive part, what about your team?"

KL: "Now we are competitive, but its only now that we've arrived, where we had planned to be at the beginning of the season. We had a lot of damage and supply problems. But now the car has got the balance and is easier to drive. Nevertheless we still have to work on the power, but in this department there won't happen very much more this year. I'm not expecting a progress before the '96 season. And this is a pity, because there is nothing which can replace bhp."

Q: "How do you judge the new Veedol chicane?"

KL: "To be honest, it's pure sh... With the money they spent on it, a better solution could have been found. Even Formula 1 won't like this chicane. My proposition would have been: Leave the corner like it is and use mobile kerbs for Formula 1."
