Launched in London's Science Museum, the car introduced as "Mansell's F1 McLaren Mercedes" has a high shovel-shaped nose with a low-slung front wing (a la Benetton).

Behind the driver's cockpit the high bodywork has been retained. The new regulations limiting the rear wings have been circumvented by use of a MID-WING mounted on top of the bodywork, half-way between the driver and the rear wings. Its width is about 3/4 of the width of the other wings, and features small wing end-plates.

Reminding this poster of a deformed version of the Red (and white) Baron's tri-wing, the car was said to be right on the limits of the rules. At the rear the radiator exits looked a bit like Ferrari's early-last-year's car air intakes.

In a TV interview Mansell commented "You know you look at it from the front and you think FLIP, you look at it from the side and it's even more impressive, so, er, [pause] and I won't tell you what the back looks like, hopefully a lot of people will be watching that."
