After four successful years as BMW Motorsport Director Gerhard Berger would love to leave the BMW WilliamsF1 Team with one or two titles in his hands.

As former F1 driver Gerhard Berger knows the pinnacle of motor racing like the back of his hands. Nearly 14 years long the Austrian has been racing for teams like Ferrari or McLaren. When he moved to BMW as BMW Motorsport Director he had the goal to win the world championship with the BMW WilliamsF1 Team within five years. And now this dream may come true already after four years. "Now, in the last third of the season, we are entering the most exciting phase", Berger says, looking forward to a close battle in the course of the last four GPs.

"I know that situation from the time when I was driving myself," Berger continues. "Currently the situation is rather relaxed. Our two 1-2s before Silverstone have provided us with the chance to fight for the title against Ferrari and McLaren. But this means that we might get under a lot of pressure suddenly two or three races before the end of the season. And all team members, from drivers to mechanics, will have to be able to stand this pressure. This is a situation we haven't experienced so far, nevertheless I think that our team is ready for the title", Berger expresses his belief in the professionalism of all BMW WilliamsF1 Team employees.

Since the BMW P82 and P83 engines have been the most powerful units in the grid and the new engine for 2004 has already successfully completed it's first test run on a test stand, the BMW Motorsport Director is convinced that one decision was vital for the F1 success of BMW: "It was dead right to built the engine factory in Munich and to employ mainly BMW engineers. A fact that becomes quite obvious by the big interest of our competitors to sign our guys."
