Is Glock leaving Marussia?

Just prior to the 2012 holidays in December, Timo Glock was very positive on the future of Marussia when they hired Pat Symonds. Now it appears that Glock will be leaving the team.

Timo Glock, Marussia F1 Team

FIA Formula One World Championship teams usually by now are preparing for the unveiling of their 2013 racing machines. It is a time to focus on the first pre-season test days in Jerez. Yet some teams are either withholding the name of their second drivers or they are still in negotiations. Actually, they do not need to announce both drivers until just prior to the first race in Australia.

The unconfirmed news of the departure of Timo Glock from the Marussia F1 team was a surprise! Before the end of 2012, Glock was positive for the team’s future when they signed Pat Symonds as a consultant. Symonds was the executive director of engineering at Renault when he was banned from F1 for his part in the Singapore Crashgate scandal. The ban was lifted, and at the time Glock said, “To have Pat at the races will definitely help because he has so much experience, can step back and have a look from outside, and he's won championships.”

The German Bild newspaper stated the German driver will be leaving Marussia. They quoted Glock as saying, "I have had three great years at the Marussia F1 team. We part on amicable terms. I want to find new challenges for myself and continue my journey in motorsport."

The news included a possible ride with the Sahara Force India team, and reports that the German was moving to the DTM series with BMW who already has a full stable of cars to aid them in earning a back-to-back championship in the German-based series. Apparently the rumor on Glock's taking a DTM ride has not yet been verified

However there was an exchange between BMW driver Dirk Muller and Glock via their twitter accounts. Muller commented: "Many congrats and welcome in the club". Glock responded: "Ppssss ... danke".

In 2012, Marussia finished 11th in the Constructors’ title as they failed to score even a single point.

If true, the newest F1 driver Max Chilton will now be sans an experienced teammate; unless the team has one up their sleeve. There is a good possibility that Vitaly Petrov or Sebastien Buemi may have a better deal financially to offer the team.

It should be noted that the Marussia F1 team has yet to sign the new Concorde Agreement with the head of Formula 1, Bernie Ecclestone.
