The Formula 1 star spent the early part of this week begging for mercy to new X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger by phone after he had invited the women back to his Mayfair hotel. Lewis told her nothing went on in his ninth floor luxury suite and said he was desperate for the couple to spend more time together.

Close friends say angry Nicole, 34, “tore strips” off the x formula 1 champion. But in the end she accepted his explanation and is sticking with him. A source close to the ex-Pussycat Dolls singer said: “They are not breaking up. Both are still committed to making the relationship work. “Nicole was very upset Lewis allowed himself to be put in such a vulnerable position because he should know what people will say and think when they see these types of pictures.

“But she accepts nothing went on in the hotel room. “They still have their problems with the sheer distances between them and their hectic careers. “But with Nicole committed to the UK for the X Factor until the end of the year they are both hoping they will be able to see much more of each other.”
