Luxembourg Grand Prix Free practice session Nürburgring, Friday 25th September

Michael Schumacher: fourth, 1m 20.461s, 32 laps Eddie Irvine: sixth, 1m 20.841s, 33 laps

Jean Todt "We worked mainly on the car set up today. Both drivers used only one set of tyres all day. As usual on Friday it is difficult to assess the true potential of our closest competitors. Our general situation is not too bad, and we know what to do to fine tune our settings."

Michael Schumacher "I was quite happy with the car today and the work we did. McLaren looks strong, as expected, but I am not concerned about the time difference as I only used one set of tyres. Therefore, I think we will be competitive this weekend. The Goodyear tyres are working consistently, so we should not have any problems in this area. I am enjoying the unusually nice weather and I hope it stays like this all weekend."

Eddie Irvine "I concentrated on set-up work, trying one type of tyre. We need to improve the balance of the car and I have too much power understeer, but generally I am quite happy. I think it will be the usual situation with the McLarens having a slight advantage. However we should be closer to them here. I went off near the end of the session and it was not worth rushing to get the car ready to go out again as I had got through the day's programme."
