On-track preparation for Jaguar Racing's home Grand Prix at Silverstone got underway on Friday morning, with the opening practice session around the Northamptonshire track. All three Jaguar R5s ran without problems as the team gathered information about set up and tyre choice.

Test driver Bjorn Wirdheim was on track right from the beginning and conducted the bulk of the team's laps. His best time stood as the 12th best of the session. "We're working away at the set up and it improved as the session went on. We will have a better idea about tyre choice after this afternoon's session. The conditions were quite cool and that is going to be a big influence on the choice, I think."

Mark Webber and Christian Klien came out in the second half of the session and recorded the 14th and 17th fastest times respectively. "We've still got some work to do on getting a better balance between the slow corners and the fast," said Webber, "buit it's coming together."

"The team is working very methodically," said Dr Mark Gillan, chief of car performance. "The reliability of the cars is helping us with getting the info we need to make good decisions."
