The third day of testing at Barcelona saw the new Renault F1 R24 complete its first full race distance. With Fernando Alonso at the wheel, R24-01 conducted a race simulation during the morning, without any major incidents, before beginning the basic set-up programme in the afternoon. The car completed a total of 473 km.
Franck Montagny began working in the R23. He conducted simulation work, a tyre endurance programme and practiced starts.
Pat Symonds, Executive Director of Engineering:
"This morning, the R24 completed its first race distance, running a simulated two-stop race. To achieve this so early with a brand new car is very encouraging, and demonstrates our commitment to ensuring reliability is at the top of our agenda this year, in order to exploit the potential we believe this package possesses."
