Official PR From Tyrrell Racing Organisation Limited For immediate release: 19 January 1995

Bright sunshine replaced Wednesday's unseasonal rain storms as the Tyrrell Yamaha Formula 1 team enjoyed exclusive use of southern Spain's Jerez circuit for the second of four days scheduled testing with two chassis,

Today, Thursday, Ukyo Katayama continued the intensive development programme on Yamaha's new 3-litre VIO, 1995 engine, fitted to a 1994 022 chassis. Once again the engine performed faultlessly and Ukyo recorded 29 timed laps, with a best lap time of 1 min 25.68 sec for the 4.428 kms circuit. The chassis was fitted with the innovative 1995 suspension system currently undergoing development for the new 023 car.

"Ukyo had a very good day's testing and the new engine again proved reliable, very user friendly and significantly more drivable than the power units we ran in December at Estoril" commented Mike Gascoyne, Tyrrell's Deputy Technical Director.

Finland's Mika Salo continued to perform impressively. Today, the 28-year old from Helsinki completed 36 laps at the wheel of a 1994 Tyrrell Yamaha 022 powered by a K-specification version of the 3.5-litre Yamaha V10 engine, similar to that used by the team at the end of the '94 season.

'"Mika drove very well over the two days" said Mike Gascoyne. "He has shown a mature approach and worked methodically towards a good set up with the chassis to suit his driving style. Mika went quicker each time he went out and recorded a best lap time of 1 min 22.66 sec, with no spins and no real 'moments'

The Tyrrell Yamaha team will continue its test programme tomorrow, when a different version of Yamaha's 3-litre VI 0 will be fitted to one of the 022 cars for Ukyo to evaluate.
