USGP Remains On Schedule With Security Plan In Place

INDIANAPOLIS, Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001 - The SAP United States Grand Prix will proceed as scheduled Sept. 30 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with full security measures in place.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has a comprehensive security plan for all of its events, created with full cooperation from federal, state of Indiana and local law enforcement authorities. A thorough review of that process is underway with all appropriate authorities. A full complement of law enforcement personnel will be on hand for the SAP United States Grand Prix, working with IMS officials on security measures. This partnership has provided security for spectators, officials and teams during times of high concern throughout the Speedway's long history as the world's most prestigious motorsports facility.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway expects all 11 Formula One teams to compete at this event with their regular drivers, and planning and logistics for the event continue on schedule.

"Every top official involved with the organization of Formula One, including FIA President Max Mosley and Bernie Ecclestone, has indicated that the U.S. Grand Prix will continue as scheduled," said Tony George, Indianapolis Motor Speedway President and CEO. "While we are very saddened by recent events, we continue to plan and work for what we expect will be a successful, exciting event. President Bush has urged Americans and the world to proceed with everyday life, and we are doing so with deep respect for those affected by last week's tragedies."

Among other major-league American sports, Major League Baseball, the National Football League and college football each will have resumed their schedules for nearly two weeks when the SAP United States Grand Prix takes place.
