Williams Jerez test notes 2004-01-09

It was the BMW WilliamsF1 Team's test driver Marc Gené who set the pace in the WilliamsF1 BMW FW25B, as testing continued at Jerez de la Frontera today.

Despite a damp start, conditions improved throughout the day as the BMW WilliamsF1 Team continued its seven day programme at the Spanish circuit.

Gené completed a series of long runs as he worked again on tyre evaluations, focussing on tyre construction for Michelin. Shortly after midday the Spaniard posted his best time of the session, a 1:17.299, and concluded the day having completed 71 laps.

Juan Pablo Montoya continued development work with the new WilliamsF1 BMW FW26. The Colombian, working on mechanical set ups, completed 56 laps and posted the second quickest time of the day, 1:17.498.

"Drivers Juan Pablo and Marc returned to the track today to continue preparation work of the new car. Juan Pablo progressed development of the FW26, concentrating on mechanical and aero set ups. Having completed 56 laps, we're pleased with the data we've recorded and will continue work on the FW26 over the weekend with Ralf. Again Marc was running the FW25B and successfully completed 71 laps and recorded the best time of the session while progressing with the tyre testing programme."

Ralf Schumacher joins Juan Pablo on Saturday, while Marc takes a well-earned one day rest.
