Quebec City, PQ --- Luciano Gomide of Sao Paolo, Brazil, easily won rounds five and six of the United States Formula Three Championship Powered by Volkswagen at the scenic 1.1 mile Circuit du St. Croix near Quebec City. Gomide was followed by team mate George Frazier of Louisville, Kentucky, in both races making it a 1-2 finish for Antonio Ferrari's Euro International team. Both drivers ran new Dallara F3/00 race cars.
Race Five: Qualifications
Gomide captured pole position in his inaugural USF3 race by 1.2 seconds over
Frazier. USF3 points leader Stuart Crow of Dallas, Texas, qualified third in
his Ralt F3/2000 fractionally slower the Frazier. Adam Andretti of Indianapolis,
Indiana, Skip Weld of Orlando, Florida, and David Rosenblum of Langhorne, Pennsylvania,
followed. Gomide's fast lap of 105.808 mph was a new overall track record.
Race Five: Race
The Brazilian ace Gomide darted out into the lead closely pursued by Frazier
leaving the field behind. The two ran together with Gomide reaching the finish
line 3.1 seconds ahead of Frazier. Stuart Crow extended his points lead by finishing
third ahead of Andretti. The two battled closely throughout the 60 kilometer
race. Weld and Rosenblum followed. Every runner finished the race with no mechanical
problems or incidents. Gomide also was timed fastest lap in the race at 103.784
mph.
"The event proved USF3 is exciting and a very reliable class of motorsport", said G. Garvin Brown III, Chairman, Active Worldwide Sports LLC, organizers of USF3. "The French Canadians fans loved this display of skill and bravery."
Race Six: Qualifications
Gomide again easily won the pole position for race six; however Frazier was able
to cut the margin to just one second. Andretti was only 1.1 seconds off Gomide's
pace shaping a competitive race. Crow qualified fourth however his Ralt suffered
gearbox problems and was forced to start the race in a backup car.
Race Six: Race
Gomide and Frazier instantly built a big advantage over the field during the
first 22 laps until a yellow flag for a debris cleanup. Gomide won his second
straight race by less than a second over Frazier. Andretti placed third. Weld,
who ran a strong third early in the race, finished fourth. Crow salvaged fifth.
Gomide again took fast lap honors with a lap of 103.697 mph.
The Quebec City rounds stopped a streak of three consecutive wins by Ralt. Both
Ralt and Dallara have now won three races each. The Euro International cars looked
strong and on the pace throughout the weekend and we never challenged. Round
Seven of the United States Formula Three Championship Powered by Volkswagen is
next Saturday, 26th at Watkins Glen.
