SAN DIEGO, CA --- Luciano Gomide of Rio de Janerio, Brazil, established an overall track record and captured his sixth straight pole position for race ten of the United States Formula Three Championship Powered by Volkswagen on the 1.6 mile temporary circuit at the San Diego Grand Prix. Gomide's time of 1:08.743 for an average speed of 86.408 MPH was faster than any other category at the San Diego Grand Prix. Adam Andretti, who is second in the championship standings, qualified second at 1:09.210, and series point leader Stuart Crow was third at 1:09.508. Gomide and Andretti drive Dallara F300's and Crow drives a Ralt F3/2000. Gomide came back from a practice crash to set the qualifying pace. Andretti also crashed after setting his qualification time. Both are expected to be race ready for the prime time start on Saturday. Marcelo Gaffogolio, a newcomer to the USF3 series, was a surprised fourth and regular USF3 runner George Frazier was fifth. Both also drove Dallara F300's. A special qualification session will be held Saturday morning for Internacional (Mexican) Formula Three participants to fill out the field. Round eleven, the final round in the championship, will be on Sunday afternoon.
