Monza: Arden qualifying report

Perez's rich vein of form continues

Sergio Perez spearheaded the Telmex Arden International challenge during qualifying for the first of this weekend's two GP2 Series races at Monza -- Europe's oldest active racetrack. The Mexican adapted quickly to the high-speed Italian circuit and qualified fourth, just 0.062s shy of a place on the front row of the grid.

Things did not go so well for team-mate Edoardo Mortara. Although he was comfortably inside the top 10 during this morning's free practice session, he will line up 23rd for tomorrow's 32-lap race.

Sergio: "It's a shame that I had an engine misfire during this morning's free practice session, because that prevented me obtaining any useful information. As I was unable to draw any firm conclusions, I didn't alter my car's set-up before qualifying but opted instead to do some detail fine-tuning during the session. That improved the balance a little, but I made a small mistake on my quickest lap and that cost me a couple of tenths. The main thing, though, is that I have a real chance of fighting for victory tomorrow."

Edoardo: "That was really disappointing. We had a reasonable practice session this morning and tried to make a few improvements, but we went in completely the wrong direction. We worked flat out to resolve the situation, but I was unable to get a clear lap once we'd improved the car and that was that. I will do my best tomorrow and we'll just have to see what happens."
