Podium for Racing Engineering's Borja García in Spa

Racing Engineering's Borja Garcia, starting the race from third position on the grid, finished the heavily rain affected Sunday GP2 race in an excellent second position. Borja's teammate Neel Jani suffered a severe accident, destroying his car entirely. Nevertheless the Swiss driver seems not to have suffered major injuries.

The good work realized during Saturday's race allowed Borja Garcia to start the second race of the Belgian round of the GP2 Series from third on the grid. The weather conditions in Spa obliged the drivers to start the race behind the safety car, and Borja stayed in third until the safety car came into the pits. Crossing the line and actually starting the race, Borja overtook Negrao on the outside of Les Combes, taking second in the race. From that moment on Borja maintained a ten second gap to his followers, although getting closer to Carroll in first was impossible due to bad visibility. Borja was holding station when the race was first suspended and then stopped after a severe accident on lap 10 involving his teammate Neel and Yoshimoto.

Neel Jani's weekend was anything but positive. In race one he stalled at the starting grid, and during Sunday's race he suffered a terrible accident on lap ten, caused by Bruni and Yoshimoto. With almost no visibility Neel hit Yoshimoto, who had crashed ahead of him, at full speed and destroyed his car.

Content after celebrating his second podium this season, Borja Garcia said: "I had a good start and immediately there was a possibility to overtake Negrao. It was a quite hairy situation, as I didn't really see a lot during this overtaking maneuver. Once in second, I have to say that our rain set-up really worked well. It was hard to see anything on the track, and therefore I also couldn't get closer to Carroll, but I felt really good in the car and had second under control."

Alfonso de Orleáns-Borbón commented after the early end of the race: "Good result for Borja Garcia. But right now my principal preoccupation is trying to get information on Neel. He generally seems to be okay, and then we will have to see if we can get the car finished on time for the next race."
