Sterling, Virginia (March 16, 2007) -- Virginia's Liam Kenney returns to Formula TR Pro Series 2000 Class action this weekend in Rounds 3 and 4 at the California Speedway, Fontana, Saturday 17th -- Sunday 18th March. The 15-year-old racer took time out to answer some quick fire questions prior to his second straight race weekend following a DNF and fourth place finish at the Fontana track last weekend to kick start the 2007 season.
Q: Looking back on your rookie car racing season, what was the highlight of 2006 and why did you decide to step up to the 2.0-litre class?
Liam Kenney (LK): "2006's highlight for me was our win at Las Vegas and our success throughout the season. I decided to run 2-litre because it's a huge slingshot into the professional world and a very good car with great competition at that."
Q: Why have you decided to run your own car this year rather than going with an existing team?
LK: "We felt we would start our own team to create the best situation, for me as a driver, and surround myself with all the right people to help me in my career."
Q: What's been the biggest challenge so far?
LK: "My biggest challenge so far had to be Round 18 at Buttonwillow in 2006 after the spin that cost me the lead. I drove my heart out and gained over 10 seconds on the leader by the end of the race."
Q: How do you rate the competition in Formula TR this season?
LK: "I would say our competition this year is top-class. There is a lot of competition this season and I really look forward to battling it out for the lead throughout the year."
Q: Has it been an easy transition stepping up into the 2.0-litre car?
LK: "It's gone very smoothly so far and I love the new car. It's fast, light and really everything a race car should be."
Q: How would you describe your first race weekend of 2007 at Fontana?
LK: "I would call it a success. The results may not have been what we were looking for, but we learned a ton, we're ready and looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead."
Q: What changes, if any, are you implementing for this weekend's races there?
LK: "I have a few changes I have to make to myself coming into this weekend from a driving standpoint, and my coach and engineer have come up with a few ideas to improve my car for this race. I really look forward to standing on top of the podium this weekend if all goes to plan!"
