Patrick's hopes torpedoed by Menzel in Hockenheim

Germany was the place to be for motorsportfans this weekend. Especially at the Hockenheimring because the Porsche Supercup was racing the 9th points race, during the German Grand Prix of Formula 1. Lechner Racing School Team drivers Alessandro Zampedri and Patrick Huisman both were still having a chance to win the championship this season. Alessandro was leading the ranks with 129 points before Saelens (115 points) and teammate Patrick Huisman (106 points). But the tide has changed after the hectic Hockenheim race. Patrick was eliminated in the first corner by a chanceless action of Menzel who was trying to outbrake the whole field and himself before the hairpin by not braking at all and taking Patrick with him in the gravel. Alessandro was 8th.

Patrick was still going for the title "I know it will be very hard to win this seasons championship. With only three races to go after this race here in Germany I hope to have a maximum result to be able to keep the chance for the title." But things went different today, being eliminated by Menzel. Points leader Alessandro Zampedri finished at and 8th position. "This was all we could do today", said the sympatric Italian just after the race.

Qualify

"The Saturday's qualifying session was ok", said Patrick Huisman who took the 4th position on the grid for Sunday's race. Alessandro was not very happy with his 12th qualifying result.: "What a disaster. I was driving with my first set of tyres when I encountered liquid left on the track by another competitor, so I could forget about setting a quicker time. When the track was clear again my tyre pressure was no good. With my second set my car started to oversteer badly. All that's left now is a bit of damage control."

Race

It was a hectic race with a good start for both drivers. Alessandro had a magnificent start and managed to gain several places and stay out of trouble. "There are at least 3 or 4 dangerous places per lap, especially in the first lap where the whole field is still packed together. I tried to stay out of the trouble and that worked. It was a crazy race with many bumps and crashes, but I stayed behind all this. Championship wise this was the best I could do. I think the F1 drivers are not very happy with this because the whole track from the Sachs Curve to the Start-Finish line is a mess. They will have to drive a nice wide line at the start" Said Alessandro.

Patrick was very disappointed: "I had a good start and managed to keep my position. We were creating a gap with the first four cars when we were braking for the Sachs Curve Hairpin and Menzell came out of nowhere hitting me in a crazy out-braking action and taking me with him. This has ruined my championship chances and the best that can happen to me this season is winning the rest of the races and become 3rd. Of course I will help Alessandro where I possibly can since he still has championship possibilities."
