Battle for Mach 1 on Land:
All night and continuing high winds and dust storms have made operations on the Black Rock Desert totally impossible . So the project has spent its time developing the 13 mile course -providing another four full 13 mile tracks - each lined and fodded (debris cleared) in just 12 hours.
Craig Breedlove tells us that Spirit of America team now have the engine removed from their car and are about to bench test the replacement engine before installation. With luck they will be back at Black Rock on Saturday.
The ThrustSSC internet web site (http://thrustssc.digital.co.uk) has just hit a new daily peak of 250,000 accesses per day. For the first time ever the 800 page web site is pulling over 1 million hits a week from 100 countries.
