Sponsors Key to AMA Pikes Peak Weekend

FOUNTAIN, Colo. - Without event sponsors like Cruise America and Suzuki, the Front Range might not be able to enjoy the fastest motorcycles in North America this weekend at Pikes Peak International Raceway when the Cruise America AMA Superbikes Weekend takes place.

Cruise America, PPIR's official motorhome sales and rental company and the world's largest purveyor of homes on wheels, provides packages for motorhome weekends at PPIR in addition to being the title-rights sponsor for AMA Superbike weekend.

Cruise America is an avid supporter of all forms of racing. Their on-site RV rentals offer trackside “hotel rooms” so fans won’t miss any of the action or fun. Cruise America has over 4,500 vehicles and nearly 125 locations across North America.

This year marks the beginning of Cruise America’s 26th year in business and their sixth year renting motorcycles. The motorcycle rental fleet includes a variety of bikes like Harley Davidson, Buell, Honda and BMW.

Associate sponsor Suzuki brings its massive AMA road racing effort to PPIR. In 1998 Suzuki reunited some familiar faces and introduced some exciting new hardware that includes an all-new Superbike. Two factory-backed semi trucks are now home for four riders and three types of Suzuki racing motorcycles. Returning to the team are rising stars Aaron Yates and Larry Pegram. Often a Superbike class front-runner, Yates took fifth-place overall in the series in 1997, and he also captured two wins in the AMA 600cc SuperSport Series. Pegram, in his first year with Suzuki, spent the first part of the year becoming accustomed to his new motorcycles and overcoming injury. But he ended 1997 in strong fashion, garnering top-10 overall finishes in Superbike and 600cc SuperSport. Back on the squad after a year on another team is Mat Mladin, who rode for Team Suzuki in 1996 and is coming off a four-win, six-podium season that netted him third overall in the 1997 AMA Superbike Series. The fourth member of Team Suzuki for 1997 is veteran Canadian racer Steve Crevier, who finished a solid fourth-place overall in the Superbike series. Pegram, Crevier and Yates also will be racing in the ultra-competitive 600cc SuperSport series on board the updated GSX-R600. First introduced last year, the all-new GSX-R won more races in the class than any other motorcycle.
