Nelles Corners, Ontario: On Saturday and Sunday, August 4-5, Cayuga 2000 Speedway hosts the second annual Agri-Fest Weekend. Featuring country music, two classes of open-wheel racecars, full-fender stock cars and plenty of free camping, the Agri-Fest Weekend is shaping up to be a fun time for music and racing fans of all ages. The track opens for weekend camping on Friday, August 3.

ISMA SUPERS FEATURED SUNDAY
The auto racing feature events are 50 laps for the Supermodifieds of the International Supermodified Association (ISMA), 30 laps for the Canadian Vintage Modifieds (CVM), and 30 laps for the Outlaw Thundercars. The Thundercars race on Saturday and Sunday, while the Supermodifieds and Vintage Modifieds run on Sunday only.

Billed as the fastest short-track asphalt cars in the world, the ISMA Supermodifieds are capable of running Cayuga's five-eighths-mile oval in less than 17 seconds at average speeds exceeding 130 mph (210 km/h). They are powered by big block, North American built motors with a maximum displacement of 470 cubic inches (7.7 litres) producing upwards of 700 horsepower.

The Supermodified portion of the Agri-Fest Weekend will be the second of two appearances at Cayuga this year for ISMA. In the first race, Joe Gosek of Oswego, New York narrowly edged young Ryan Coniam from Burlington, Ontario in a thrilling finish. It was Gosek's third Cayuga win in a row. The defending ISMA champ will be going for an unprecedented fourth consecutive victory when the ISMA Supermodifieds return to Cayuga on August 5. Coming off a victory in the Hi-Miler Classic last weekend at Sandusky, Ohio, Dave McKnight of Brampton, Ontario, a three-time winner this year, leads the ISMA point standings.

On the strength of two feature wins, David Elliott of Dundas, Ontario heads the point standings in the Grisdale Racing Tour for Canadian Vintage Modifieds. Second place Doc Roper from Oakville has yet to win this year, but has been consistent in his 1934 Chevrolet coupe. Multi-time CVM champion Ray Hughes from Kitchener, a 35-year veteran, is third in the point chase. Hughes has also recorded a pair of victories in his 1933 Plymouth coupe. Doug Hood of Freelton is fourth. He drives a 1930 Ford Model A and has one win in the nine CVM events run thus far.

Spectator gates for the auto races open at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday. Warm ups are scheduled for 10:00 o'clock. Qualifying heat races for the three classes are scheduled to start at noon. On Saturday, gates open at noon.

The 2nd Annual Agri-Fest Weekend comes to Cayuga 2000 Speedway, August 4-5 with Restless Heart, Confederate Railroad and Lighthouse headlining the stage portion of the two days of auto racing and musical entertainment. The track opens for weekend camping at noon on Friday, August 3.

Live performances start Saturday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock when Danni O'Neil, Greg Hanna, Lowdown, The Good Brothers, and Gordie Tapp perform at The Stage. Confederate Railroad, the headliner for Saturday, is scheduled to close the first day of musical entertainment.

Touted as the bad boys of country music, Confederate Railroad was formed in the early nineties. Drenched in the southern country rock of Charlie Daniels and Lynyrd Skynyrd, Confederate Railroad won the Academy Of Country Music award for Top New Vocal Group in 1992. Their new CD, "Unleashed" is scheduled to be released on August 14.

On Sunday, a new roster of performers takes to The Stage starting at 6:00 p.m. The line up includes bright aspiring Canadian talent Jamie Prokop, Mustang Sally (a six-piece, all-girl band from Texas), Canadian rock and roll legend Lighthouse, and Restless Heart.

Restless Heart is a latter-day Eagles band that has topped the country charts six times. The titles include "That Rock Won't Roll", "I'll Still be Loving You" (also a pop hit and much requested at weddings), "Why Does It Have To Be (Wrong Or Right), "Wheels" (their best-known record, written by Dave Loggins), "Bluest Eyes In Texas" and the emotion-packed ballad "A Tender Lie".

Lighthouse has 10 gold albums and a platinum album to its credit. The legendary band received a Juno award four times (the Junos are the epitome of accomplishment in Canadian music). Two members of the original band have been inducted into the Canadian Music Hall Of Fame (Skip Prokop and Steve Kennedy). The 11-piece band includes original members Skip Prokop, Paul Hoffert, Ralph Cole and Russ Little. Danny Clancy joined the group in 1994 when former lead singer Bob McBride became too ill to tour. Lighthouse's hits include "One Fine Morning", "Sunny Days", Pretty Lady", Hats Off To The Stranger" "Take It Slow (Out In The Country)", and "Sweet Lullabye".

Tickets are $60 for the full weekend if purchased in advance. Weekend admission includes camping, all of the music shows and both racing events. If bought at the gate, weekend admission is $75. Advance tickets are available through Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.ca.

Race fans who wish to watch just the stock car races, may purchase tickets at the gate on the day of the event. Adult tickets are $25. The Family Plan costs $80 and admits two adults and two students. Children under 12 are free

Cayuga 2000 Speedway is located at Nelles Corners, Ontario, Highway 3 between Jarvis and Cayuga, 1 km north on Indian Line Road (Regional Road 20).
