CHRISTODOULOU WINS 2009 STAR MAZDA OPENER AT SEBRING
SEBRING, Fla. (March 23, 2009) -- Adam Christodoulou started on the outside of the first row, led every lap and won the season-opening race for the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear at Sebring International Raceway.
The Englishman recorded his fastest lap of the race on the 15th circuit around the 3.7-mile Sebring road course. The race distance was 20 laps.
Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear, supplying radial tires specifically designed and manufactured for the Star Mazda program. The Star Mazda program includes a national championship series, as well as regional programs.
Conor Daly, son of open wheel and road racing star Derek Daly, said, "The track changed dramatically during the race, but the Goodyear tires held up well." Daly finished third.
Christodoulou beat runner-up Richard Kent to the finish by just .504 of a second. Daly, an Anderson Racing teammate of Kent's, was third. Caio Lara and Joel Miller capped the top five finishers.
Chris Cummings won the Expert Class for drivers aged 30-44 and Mike Guasch won the Master Class for drivers 45 years and above.
