Houston, TX The first round qualifying for the Indy Lights produced rookie Jason Bright from Australia as the provisional pole sitter. Bright turned a qualifying lap in 65.964 seconds at a speed of 83.336 mph. He was followed by Geoff Boss and Mario Dominguez, both less than 0.3 seconds behind the leader. When asked about the track, all the drivers agreed the track was getting better. The only short-coming is the bumpy surface.
Geoff Boss, who is sitting in the number two spot, is running here with a "Texas Connection". Engineer Craig Perkins, who is a native Texan, is chief wrench for the team this weekend. The Cross Pens team comes to Houston without any interim testing. Boss is very confident that this will not effect their chances here this weekend. Geoff was very comfortable with his setup and felt that it would take him on for a great finish on Sunday.
Mario Dominguez, calling this his "home track", was confident that his Herdaz team had found a winning combination. Dominguez was impressed with the attendance of his Mexican countrymen. When asked if he felt the pressure of performing for his fans, Dominguez responded "Of course the pressure is on me. But it's a good feeling to be running in front of all the people and sponsors from my home country."
Second round qualifying will be held Saturday at 1:00pm CST.
