HARVEY FINISHES FIFTH IN TOUGH EASTER WEEKEND

Bassingham kart racer Jack Harvey had to settle for fifth place in the opening round of the Mini-Max Stars of Tomorrow Championship at Rowrah in Cumbria at the weekend.

The Strawberry Racing Team driver started the weekend topping the time-sheets in testing on Friday. A handful of good results in the heats on Saturday and Sunday left him third on the grid for the final on Sunday afternoon.

A poor start when he was boxed in at the first corner meant that he dropped back down the pack on the opening lap. A superb fight back through the field over the rest of the 15-lap race allowed him to claim fifth place before the chequered flag.

The solid results over the weekend mean that he stands in the top three of the championship, with all of the heats scoring points.

"We've got to be a little bit disappointed with the weekend to be honest," said Jack. "We had the pace on Friday and I was quickest all but one of the test sessions. We just seemed to lose out a little bit from the heats onwards," he added.

"We can come away from the meeting with a few positives though. The Mini-Max class is incredibly hard to get right all the time and it has been a steep learning curve this weekend."

"We have a Super One round at Rowrah later in the season though, so we can learn from this weekend and hopefully be stronger next time," he said.

Jack will be back in action in the second round of the Super One Championship at Shennington in two weeks time.
