WKA To Attend Accus/FIA Meeting in US

02.17.2009 - World Karting Association President, Rick Dresang, recently announced that he, along with Executive Director, Van Gilder, will once again attend the Accus/FIA Meetings to be held this week in Orlando, Florida.

The event, held annually, encompasses all the major sanctioning bodies of motorsports, including NASCAR, IRL, NHRA, SCCA, and USAC, to name a few. The object of the organization, as well as the meeting, is to discuss ways to improve the vision of motorsports at every conceivable level. From a karting standpoint, WKA's participation has proven quite successful, gaining essential knowledge in the industry while establishing very valuable contacts in the motorsports world.

In an effort to ensure WKA is well represented at all levels with FIA/CIK, Paul Zalud will be attending the CIK European meeting overseas at the same time. The results of these two meetings provide a wealth of information regarding motorsports worldwide.

WKA Adopts New Tire Rule For Speedway Pavement Series

02.17.2009 - With a new season fast approaching and tough economic decisions still left to be made for everyone, officials at World Karting have made strides in cutting the tire cost down for competitors on the Rage Karts Speedway Pavement Series, beginning with the Hodge Racing Supply Nationals April 3-5 at OCR Action Sports Park in Rougemont, North Carolina.

On the heels of yesterday's announcement regarding the allowance of the Dunlop DCS and Firestone YGF tires for 2009, competitors running the 2009 series will also be required to run the same tire both days in their respective classes. Tires will be branded as competitors complete their qualifying run on Saturday. For any competitor who arrives to qualify on Sunday without the official WKA brand on the tire, a penalty will be assessed. The move is an effort to not just level the competitive playing field, but trim a significant amount off an annual tire bill for the racer.
