Aledo, IL (July 3, 2001) The Aledo Raceway in Aledo, IL played host to an openwheel special event Tuesday night with 360 Sprints and the Winged Three-Quarter Midget Association on hand. Robbie Ray came home the winner of the WTQMA feature event and, along with the rest of the WTQMA field, donated his winnings to the family and especially son of a murder victim from Oquawka, IL. The entire field of WTQMA cars donated at least half of their winnings and some, including Ray, donated their entire earnings for the night. The WTQMA also issued a challenge during the driver's meeting to the rest of the classes running, including the sprint cars, to do the same.
Ray brought home the win after starting from the pole position and leading every lap of the race. He was not without a challenge though as Mike Raymond, who also donated all of his earnings, gave him a challenge several times on the inside down the backstretch. Following Raymond was Jeff Mallonee, who was the first to donate all of his winnings.
The heat races were exciting as usual with Derek Mungor bringing home his first heat race win. Mungor won the first heat over Ray and Shawn Scripter. Mungor pulled out to a three or four car length lead over Ray and remained unchallenged for most of the race.
The second heat of the night was won by Raymond who started from the pole position. Following him was Bill Jones who was making his first appearance with the WTQMA. Jones battled Danny Bradley for much of the race with Bradley having to give up the position.
