Raymond claims first night of Jefferson County doubleheader

Fairfield, IA (July 7, 2001) - Mike Raymond came home the big winner at the Jefferson County Fair Saturday. Raymond charged from mid-pack to win his second feature of the season.

Raymond started on the inside third row and by the third lap was in third place. By the end of the seventh lap he was leading. Raymond lead the final 13 laps to win. For much of the race Danny Bradley ran in the second position before running out of fuel on the last lap which gave second position to defending series champion Robbie Ray.

The heat races showed some great battles. In the first heat Ray and Raymond battled for the lead with Ray running the high side and Raymond running low. Ray passed Raymond and came home the winner.

The second heat saw a new heat race winner for 2001. Kenny Byrge of Dunkirk, IN won his first ever heat race of his career. Byrge battled with Brian Landry early before taking the lead for good.
