QUALIFYING SESSION #1 NOTES: Al Turner's 13th lap around the Molson Indy Vancouver circuit was the lucky one on Friday afternoon. The veteran Castrol Super Series driver posted the fastest lap of the weekend, during the first qualifying session, and promptly parked his Blue Streak Intrepid so as to protect his equipment for the series' second qualifying session, which takes place Saturday morning. Under overcast skies and a light sprinkle, at times, Turner's lap of 1 minute and 25.465 seconds cut almost two seconds off Kevin Dowler's fastest practice lap, set Friday morning. Although several drivers attempted 'hot laps' right up until the end of the half-hour session, Turner's time held up and earned him the Provisional Pole for Saturday's race. There were no major incidents in the half-hour qualifying period, during which almost every driver bettered their times from the morning practice session. Molson Indy Toronto race winner Robin Buck and his crew continued to repair damage their car incurred early in Friday practice and did not participate. The UAP/NAPA Pontiac driver is hoping to be competitive in Saturday's second and final qualifying opportunity, which starts at 8 a.m.
