Bowyer's Team Snags Pit Crew Challenge Win at Bristol
No. 07 crew earns first Checkers/Rally's Double Drive-Thru Challenge victory of season

Clint Bowyer's over-the-wall crew claimed the Checkers/Rally's Double Drive-Thru Challenge during Saturday night's NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway, becoming the 13th team to win the weekly competition.

"I'm proud of these guys because Bristol is a hard place to pit," said Gil Martin, crew chief for the No. 07 Richard Childress Racing team. "We have very unusual circumstances with the double pit road and that makes everyone's job a little different than it is from week to week and these guys adapted very well."

"Most of all, I'm proud of them for the job they did during the green-flag stops," continued Martin. "We came in sixth and went out third after our last stop. When we needed a clutch pit stop, those guys really came through. That pit stop propelled us up to third and, obviously, it was very hard to pass at the end so a lot of credit for this top-three finish goes to them."

The No. 07 crew, which spent 206.320 seconds on pit lane, includes: Carey Wimbish (jackman), Dail Long (front-tire carrier),Shane Westerberg (front-tire changer), Dustin Long (rear-tire carrier), Jake Lind (rear-tire changer), Mike Morrison (gasman), Clint "Ratto" Almquist (catch can) and Troy Welty (eighth man).

Bowyer's Jack Daniels crew will be presented with an $11,000 check by Checkers/Rally's for winning the weekly challenge. An additional $111,150 prize will be presented to the pit crew with the most wins at the completion of the 36-race Nextel Cup schedule.

The No. 01 crew for Mark Martin leads the season-long Checkers/Rally's Double Drive-Thru Challenge standings with four wins.

To win, teams are required to finish on the lead lap while spending the least amount of time on pit road. Checkers/Rally's is in its third season as title sponsor for the Pit Crew Challenge.

Aric Almirola's No. 20 over-the-wall crew secured the win in Friday's Checkers/Rally's Double Drive-Thru Challenge at Bristol Motor Speedway. The crew, which spent just 119.887 seconds on pit road, helped the team cross the finish line with a 10th-place finish.
