1994 TRANSOUTH FINANCIAL 400, Darlington, S.C.
Dale Earnhardt scored his ninth victory on Winston Cup racing's oldest superspeedway and ended a 16-race winless streak. Earnhardt won a newly reconstructed 400-mile race, down from 500 for the first time since 1972. Of note, it was also Earnhardt's sixth victory in the spring event at Darlington and overall, he was just one win short of David Pearson's record 10 wins at the treacherous 1.366- mile egg-shaped track.
Earnhardt, who led 166 laps, dominated the race to put himself within one win of David Pearson's record 10 wins at the treacherous 1.366- mile egg-shaped track. He beat Mark Martin to the finish line by 7.4 seconds. Bill Elliott finished third, with Dale Jarrett fourth and Lake Speed fifth. The victory allowed Earnhardt to tie Mark Martin for second place in the Winston Cup point standings, 81 points behind leader Ernie Irvan, who finished sixth.
