STERLING MARLIN (No. 40 Coors Light Dodge Intrepid R/T)
Marlin will drive chassis No. 115 at the Brickyard. It's the same
Intrepid R/T that finished third earlier this season at Michigan. Marlin led
three times for 28 laps at Michigan and finished third. He finished 16th in
the Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway last Sunday and remained fifth in the
NASCAR Winston Cup Standings (NWCS). He is the only driver who has remained
in the top-10 in points all season. He now trails point leader Jeff Gordon by
318 and fourth-place Tony Stewart by 57. Marlin is one of just six drivers
with 10 or more top-10 finishes in the 20 races this season. He has scored
only one top-10 finish in seven races at Indy. His best finish at Indy, a
seventh, occurred there in 1995. He finished 30th in last year's Brickyard
400. The 44-year-old driver from Columbia, Tenn., will make his 524th NASCAR
Winston Cup career start on Sunday.
BILL ELLIOTT (No. 9 Dodge Dealers Dodge Intrepid R/T)
Elliott, fresh off a season-best fourth-place finish last week in the
Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway, will race a brand new Dodge Intrepid R/T
chassis in the Brickyard 400. Elliott finished third last year in the
Brickyard 400 and has five top-10 finishes in seven starts at the famous
2.5-mile track. The 45-year-old driver from Dawsonville, Ga., moved up three
spots in the NWCS to 16th after 20 of 36 events. Elliott has posted four
top-10 finishes in the last seven races. Elliott will make career start No.
644 on Sunday.
WARD BURTON (No. 22 Caterpillar Dodge Intrepid R/T)
Burton will race the same chassis at Indy that finished 16th earlier this
season at Rockingham. Burton finished 38th last week at Pocono after getting
caught up in an accident on lap 151. The 39-year-old driver from South
Boston, Va., finished 28th last year at the Brickyard. He ranks 19th in the
NWCS and will be making career start No. 235 on Sunday.
DAVE BLANEY (No. 93 Amoco Ultimate Dodge Intrepid R/T)
Blaney will race his Coca-Cola 600 chassis at Indy. He finished 33rd
earlier this season at Charlotte in the 600. Blaney was running eighth on the
final lap last week at Pocono and ran out of fuel. He finished 22nd and
remained 26th in the NWCS. Blaney finished 23rd last year as a rookie at Indy
and will make career start No. 60 on Sunday.
JOHN ANDRETTI (No. 43 Cheerios Dodge Intrepid R/T)
Andretti will drive the same chassis at Indy that qualified 23rd and
finished 23rd earlier this season at Chicago. Andretti, a 38-year-old driver
from Indianapolis, finished 27th last week at Pocono and gained a spot in the
NWCS. He's now 30th after 19 starts this season. Involved in an early
accident in last year's Brickyard 400, Andretti finished 42nd after
qualifying 15th. Andretti will make career start No. 247 on Sunday.
CASEY ATWOOD (No. 19 Dodge Dealers Dodge Intrepid R/T)
Atwood will race a brand new chassis at The Brickyard. The 20-year-old
Raybestos Rookie of the Year contender from Nashville, Tenn., finished 15th
last week at Pocono. He was the highest finishing rookie for the third time
this season and ranks third in the Raybestos rookie standings. Atwood moved
up two spots to 32nd in the NWCS after his second straight top-15 finish.
STACY COMPTON (No. 92 Kodiak Dodge Intrepid R/T)
Compton will race a brand new Intrepid R/T chassis at The Brickyard. The
34-year-old driver from Hurt, Va., finished 37th in last year's Brickyard
400. He finished 32nd last week at Pocono and dropped a spot to 34th in the
NWCS. Compton will make career start No. 52 on Sunday.
JASON LEFFLER (No. 01 Cingular Wireless Dodge Intrepid R/T)
Leffler will race his Michigan chassis at The Brickyard. He finished 19th
at Michigan. The 25-year-old Raybestos Rookie of the Year driver from Long
Beach, Calif., finished 21st last week at Pocono. He ranks fifth in the
six-driver Raybestos rookie race and 35th in the NWCS.
BUCKSHOT JONES (No. 44 Georgia Pacific Dodge Intrepid R/T)
Jones will drive a brand new Intrepid chassis at Indy. The 31-year-old
driver from Tucker, Ga., will make his 35th career start on Sunday. He
finished 39th last week at Pocono and ranks 39th in the NWCS.
KYLE PETTY (No. 45 Sprint Dodge Intrepid R/T)
Petty will drive his California and Michigan chassis at Indy. He finished
35th at California and 27th at Michigan. The 41-year-old driver from
Randleman, N.C., finished 32nd last year in the Brickyard 400. He finished
31st last week at Pocono and ranks 42nd in the NWCS. Petty will make career
start No. 599 on Sunday.
