NASCAR officials have been notified by Dr. Charles Branch Jr. of the department of Neurosurgery at Bowman Gray Medical Center in Winston Salem, N.C., that Dr. Branch has cleared seven-time NASCAR Winston Cup Series champion Dale Earnhardt to drive in this weekend's events at Richmond International Raceway.
Dr. Branch will be at the .75-mile raceway for a 9 a.m. press conference Friday along with Earnhardt. The weekend's activities include the Virginia is for Lovers 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event on Thursday night, the Autolite Platinum 250 NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division event Friday night and the Exide NASCAR Select Batteries 400 NASCAR Winston Cup Series event Saturday night. Practice for the NASCAR Winston Cup Series event begins at 11:30 a.m. Friday.
