NASCAR officials announce penalties
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 20, 1999) NASCAR officials announced today that Tommy Morgan, crew chief of Roush Racing's No. 16 Ford, Bobby Leslie, crew chief of Roush's No. 26 Ford and Jimmy Elledge, crew chief for Andy Petree Racing's No. 55 Chevrolet, have all been fined $2,000 for rules violations prior to this past Sunday's Goody's Body Pain 500 at the Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville, Va. Kenny Wallace, driving the No. 55 Square D Chevrolet, started Sunday's race 34th and finished 6th, while Johnny Benson started 40th and finished 35th in the No. 26 Cheerios Ford. Kevin Lepage started the race 28th and finished 21st in the No. 16 TV Guide/PRIMESTAR Ford.
All three crew chiefs were penalized under Section 12 Rule 4 Article Q in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series rule book: "... parts and/or equipment used in the Event do not conform to NASCAR rules," and a violation of Section 20A Rule 11.2: "Holes drilled in frames, frame supports, and cross members with the intent of making the metal lighter are not permitted."
