Pontiac Racing chassis notes

No. 10
Valvoline Grand Prix driver Johnny Benson remains third in the Winston Cup points entering this weekend's Pontiac Excitement 400 at Richmond. The chassis underneath Benson's Grand Prix has two races on it this season and has qualified and finished in the top 10 both times.

No. 14
Conseco Pontiac driver Ron Hornaday is behind the wheel of the same chassis that he wheeled into the top 10 at Martinsville until a late-race flat tire dropped him to 27th. Hornaday comes to Richmond looking for his second top 10 finish of the season. His best effort was a ninth at Las Vegas in week three, which he also earned with this piece.

Defending Winston Cup champion Bobby Labonte won his first pole of 2001 last weekend at California and is hoping that a new chassis will carry him to his first win this weekend at Richmond. Labonte ran well here twice last year, but suffered setbacks in both races that cost him possible top five finishes.

Home Depot Grand Prix driver Tony Stewart, who grabbed his first NASCAR Winston Cup victory at Richmond in September 1999, has led 407 laps in the past three races here. Stewart heads into the Pontiac Excitement 400 riding back-to-back top fives and a run of three straight top 10 finishes, which began at Martinsville on April 8 with this chassis.

Geico Pontiac driver Kenny Wallace, who is starting on the outside of the front row in Friday's Busch Series race, would love to duplicate that type of effort on the Winston Cup side at Richmond. Wallace's best finish in 2001 is a 25th, which he has posted twice (Daytona, Texas). The chassis underneath the '27' car is the one he last drove at Bristol in week six.

M&M's Grand Prix driver Ken Schrader scored three top 15 finishes in his first four starts with new crew chief Newt Moore, including an eighth at Atlanta and a 10th at Texas. Schrader and Moore are hoping to get back to that level this weekend at Richmond with a chassis that started five races during the 2000 season. This weekend marks its first run of 2001.
