Aaron's Pontiac driver Johnny Benson has scored five top 11 finishes in the
past seven races and one of those (11th) with this chassis in its last
outing at New Hampshire. Benson is 14th in the Winston Cup point standings,
just 125 out of the 11th position.
14
Conseco Grand Prix driver Rick Mast has three career top 10s here at Phoenix
and will go for his fourth this weekend with the chassis he last drove at
New Hampshire. His day ended in a DNF there after a crash with 13 laps to
go.
18
Winston Cup points leader Bobby Labonte is behind the wheel of chassis No.
50 this weekend. It's the same piece that debuted at New Hampshire with a
second, scored a hard-fought 10th at Martinsville and a disappointing 20th
last time out at Rockingham (flat tire). Labonte would love to improve on
last year's third place performance here, which stands as his best career
effort at Phoenix.
20
Home Depot Pontiac driver Tony Stewart has reached his late-season form
again this season as he looks for a sophomore record sixth win this weekend.
The defending Phoenix champion owns two wins, three top five and four top 10
finishes in his last five events.
22
Ward Burton, who posted his best Phoenix run (13th) last year, needs some
good fortune this weekend as he looks for his second straight top 10. In
his last six starts Burton has two top 10s, but also has four finishes of
22nd or worse. This weekend he'll run the same chassis he ran at
Martinsville when he lost an engine and finished 43rd.
27
Mike Bliss scored a 19th and a 28th in his firs two starts with this chassis
at New Hampshire and Martinsville, respectively. Bliss, a four-time winner
at Phoenix in various divisions, has won Raybestos rookie of the race honors
the past two weeks.
36
Ken Schrader, who is a two-time pole winner here at Phoenix, is running the
chassis he last ran at Martinsville, where he finished 16th. In three other
starts with it this year, Schrader has scored a 10th, 12th and 17th, as
well. Schrader is looking for his fifth career top 10 at PIR this weekend.
43
John Andretti has established some consistency in recent weeks, scoring
seven straight finishes of 23rd or better. Andretti, who is running the
same chassis he ran two weeks ago at Rockingham, won the pole here last
season and went on to finish eighth.
44
Steve Grissom will look to get the Hot Wheels Pontiac its 23rd start of the
year this weekend at Phoenix. He'll be driving the same piece the team took
to Martinsville in October.
93
Dave Blaney comes to Phoenix looking to snap a six-race drought without a
top 20 finish and will attempt it with the chassis he last ran at
Martinsville in October.
