CONCORD, NC - At lap 106, light rain began to pepper the race track at Lowe's Motor Speedway slowing the action. NASCAR brought out the red flag a lap later and stopped the field on pit road.

Defending Winston Cup champion Tony Stewart leads the field followed by four-time Winston Cup champion Jeff Gordon, Elliott Sadler, Kurt Busch and Matt Kenseth.

Stewart is looking to turn his luck around this weekend after scoring four DNF's in the last six events.

A storm cell has been lingering over the Charlotte, North Carolina area for days plaguing the on track events at Lowe's. Hopes for completing the total distance of this race are dim, as NASCAR weather radar shows a 50% chance of rain this evening.

Robby Gordon, the 1100-mile man, running both Indy and Charlotte Sunday sits

After mechanical difficulties Gordon finished 22nd in the 87th running of the Indianapolis 500.

UPDATE:

After a 19 minute red flag for a brief rain shower at Lowe's Motor Speedway, cars have taken back to the track. Currently, the cars are rounding the speedway to assist in track drying efforts before the field retakes the green flag.

Tony Stewart continues to be the leader of the event.

UPDATE:

A heavy rain has began to fall at Lowe's Motor Speedway at lap 274 bringing out the day's ninth caution. About three laps later, the second red flag came out as the cars were brought down pit road and parked.

NASCAR rules state that a race is "official" after it has completed half of the advertised distance. The Coca-Cola 600 was "official" at lap 201. Conditions look grim for the event to get back underway.
