BUSCH: Kansas: Regan Smith qualifying notes

Kansas City, KS (October 8, 2005) - Regan Smith, driver of the No. 58 Samson Stone Dodge Charger in the NASCAR Busch Series, will start third in Saturday's United Way 300 at Kansas Speedway. It will be Smith's career best start in the series. It is his third top ten start in the last eleven races.

Starting from the inside of the second row is quite a feat for Smith, 22, who is making his debut at the 1.5-mile track, located 15 miles west of Kansas City. Smith was one of three drivers who broke the track's qualifying record of 178.3 mph, previously held by Michael Waltrip. Smith logged a best lap of 178.761 mph, which was also the best effort by a Dodge team. Another Dodge driver, Kasey Kahne, will start alongside Smith, the only two Dodges starting in the top ten.

The former Cato, NY resident has 45 career starts in the NASCAR Busch Series, where he has raced part-time since making his series debut three years ago this month. This season, Smith is driving for Scott Glynn, a Phoenix, AZ contractor.
