FIELDS SET FOR NHRA LUCAS OIL EVENT AT ATCO RACEWAY

ATCO, N.J. -- In the final rounds of qualifying for this weekend's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event presented by PCRichard.com, Farmingdale, N.J., resident Jake Crimmins held on to the No. 1 qualifying position in Comp Eliminator with a run of 6.422 seconds.

Crimmins is followed by Vinny Barone of Dix Hills, N.Y., in the No. 2 spot and joined by Ernie Kendall of Doylestown, Pa., who outran the Top Dragster field for the top spot at 6.672 seconds at 209.65 mph. Alan O'Brian of Roncerverte, W. Va., and Paul Neal of Everett, Ma., round out the top three.

In the Foxwoods Top Sportsman class John Benoit and Ronnie Proctor are one and two respectively. Benoit, out of Montpelier, Vt. ran 6.638 seconds with Proctor of Harpers Ferry, W. Va., right on his heels at 6.782 seconds.

Richard Adkins of Willingboro, N.J., jumped to the top of the field in Stock Eliminator in his '67 Shelby, followed by another '67 Shelby driven by Bill Hawk of Manassas, Va., and the '68 Mustang of Ed Horensky of Sugarloaf, Pa., in third.

Mahopac, N.Y., resident Angelo Ditocco rounded out the top qualifiers leading the Super Stock contingent.

Racing continues Sunday at 9:30 a.m. with racers competing for nearly $200,000 in cash and contingency awards. Gates open at 7 a.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, children 6-11 are $1, and kids 5 and under are free with a paid adult. Atco Raceway is located at 1000 Jackson Drive in Atco, N.J.
