ARAGONA WINS HIS 7TH OF THE YEAR
ATCO, N.J. -- In the final results from this weekend's $195,625 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event presented by PCRichard.com Frank Aragona Jr. picked up his seventh win of the year and fifth in the Northeast division.
Aragona of Old Bridge, N.J., squared off against Al Ackerman in the Comp Eliminator final, and held off the Saddle Brook, N.J., resident with a lap of 8.328 seconds at 148.78 mph.
John Coughlin made the trip from Delaware, Ohio, pay off with a win in Super Stock over Jim Harrington of Chapel Hill, N.C. Coughlin, running out of the NHRA North Central Division, was pulling double duty this weekend also running in the Top Dragster where he advanced to the third round.
Billy Pires of Dighton, Mass., held off Lee Zane for the win in Stock Eliminator while Guy Hansen of Westport, Conn., won in Super Street over Joe Urbino who left early with a red light. Doug Doll Jr. out of Lititz, Pa., outran Dave Muller of Ewing, N.J., in Super Comp and Mineola, N.Y., racer Michael Cerro beat Frank Tatarynowic in his '63 Corvette.
Jason Kenny of Kingston, Ont., used a .002 second reaction time to get a head start on Bob Murphy Jr. of Levittown, Pa., and held on to win by the same, clocking in at 7.416 seconds to Murphy's 7.418 second pass.
In the division's Foxwoods Top Sportsman class it was Ed Foley taking the win on a bye run when John Benoit was unable to make the call in his semifinal match up. Foley of Warminster, Pa., beat Arty Descare in his semifinal round.
This was the last of seven races in the NHRA Northeast division's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series schedule. Racers may continue to earn points toward divisional and national titles at out-of-division races. The final NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event of the year is slated for October 19-21 in NHRA's Southeast division.
