Densham looking for better luck in Las Vegas
HOUSTON -- Don't mind Gary Densham if he is a little happy now that the O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park is over. In fact, the entire Racebricks Chevy Monte Carlo team just might be able to skip for joy to the next race.
Densham wasn't able to earn the No. 1 qualifying position for the third consecutive season at Houston because the team didn't qualify for the event. Densham drove to a best run of 5.161-seconds at 235.93 mph, just missing the cut for final eliminations.
"Any time you put this much effort into something and don't fulfill your minimum expectations, it's a real disappointment," Densham said. "We started the season a little behind the ball and we've been playing catch-up ever since. The biggest problem is that the competition is so good, it's tough to come-from-behind the pack once the season starts."
But that could change. Densham is anxious to get to next weekend's event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
"I really think we fixed the problem," Densham said. "For the first time all season, I am really excited about going to the next race. I think we are finally going to be able to run with the rest of the class and I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do. I really hope I don't make myself a liar when the results come out, but I think we've fixed the problem.
"We kept hurting the motor and we made a lot of adjustments. I think we're going to be right back on track in Vegas."
The next NHRA POWERade event is at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, April 15-17.
