MCCLENATHAN JOINS TUTTLE MOTORSPORTS FOR RETURN AT NHRA SUMMER NATIONALS
TOPEKA, Kan. -- Thirty-four time NHRA Top Fuel national event winner Cory McClenathan will return to racing at this weekend's NHRA Summer Nationals in Topeka, Kan. McClenathan will be behind the wheel of Dexter Tuttle's Colorfast-backed dragster which Tuttle tuned to an eighth-place finish in 2010.
"I got the call from Dexter Monday morning asking if I wanted to drive his car in Topeka," McClenathan said. "Obviously I jumped at the opportunity. Dexter's car has everything it takes to run well and compete with anyone out there. I've had a tough time watching from the sidelines this season, but now I guess it's time to get off the bench and get back on the field. I'm really excited. "
McClenathan, who finished the 2010 season third in points, has high expectations for the weekend.
"Everyone knows I don't take losing well," McClenathan said. "I'm a fierce competitor, and so is Dexter, so we obviously will be trying to win the race. I still live by my motto 'I play to win' and I have no desire to just show up to drive for the fun of it. That being said, I'm also realistic and if we can qualify in the top half of the field and go a few rounds I would consider it a successful weekend."
Colorfast Industries is sponsoring McClenathan's return this weekend, with associate sponsorship from Yonke Motorsports.
"Colorfast is introducing a new Ultra-Performance Urethane Grout," Tuttle said. "What better way to promote it than to put Cory Mac back on the racetrack?"
"I'm looking forward to seeing all my fans out at the track again," McClenathan said. "They have been a constant source of encouragement this year. I'm looking forward to spending time signing autographs and just saying thank you. We really are a big family out here and I miss it."
