Connolly Comes in Fifth During Qualifying at Denver
Torco Racing Fuels Cobalt Runs Best of 7.054 Seconds
DENVER, July 14, 2007 -- Dave Connolly races Warren Johnson in the first round of Sunday's Mopar Mile-High Nationals in a rematch of the 2005 final round at Bandimere Speedway.
This time, however, Connolly comes in as the No. 5 qualifier with a best of 7.054 seconds at 195.28 mph to Johnson's No. 12 at 7.091, 194.21 mph in the high altitude.
"Things went pretty smooth this weekend," said Connolly, driver of Evan Knoll's Torco Racing Fuels/Seelye Wright Automotive Group Cobalt. "We knew we were in (the starting line-up) and Tommy (Utt, team crew chief) tried something in our first Saturday run that didn't work (7.103 seconds, his slowest), so he did something else in the next run and the car ran better (7.068).
"The car ran pretty good at this altitude. We'll be looking for revenge in the first round."
