HERBERT QUALIFIES NO. 13
Denver, Colo. (July 14, 2007) Qualifying for the 28th Annual Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals came to an end with Doug Herbert, driver of the Snap-on Tools Top Fuel dragster, in the No. 13 position.
Herbert's quickest pass of the qualifying session came on Friday afternoon, with the Snap-on Tools dragster making it down the quarter-mile in 4.76 seconds at 291 mph.
With Bandimere Speedway nestled in the mountains at 5,860 feet above sea level, getting a Top Fuel dragster all the air it needs to run strong can be a challenge.
"Making the car run in the thin air here is always tough," said Herbert, "and we haven't been able to make a pass on all eight cylinders. Once we get that fixed, we will be as fast as anyone out here.
"Anything can happen on race day, especially here in Denver. We plan on going rounds tomorrow, and maybe even taking home our first win of the season."
Herbert will face J.R. Todd in opening round action.
