Herbert runs 4.79 during preseason testing at Firebird Raceway
CHANDLER, Ariz., Jan. 20, 2002 - When Doug Herbert left Firebird Raceway late Sunday afternoon, he was content with the knowledge that his Snap-on Racing Top Fuel dragster was responding to the tune-up of new co-crew chief Johnny West.
Herbert's best time during the three days of preseason testing was 4.79 seconds at 251.39 mph, and he shut it off early on that run. The blower belt broke on Sunday's last attempt when Herbert tried to go quicker and faster. West gathered enough data during the three days here to help him prepare for next weekend's test outing at Tucson, Ariz.
"Things went well," said Herbert. "Everybody on the crew worked well together and the car was responding the way it should to the changes Johnny made during the weekend. We're looking forward to going to Tucson to see what we can do."
The team will take off the first weekend in February to prepare for the Winternationals, Feb. 7-10 at Pomona, Calif. It is the first of 23 NHRA Powerade Drag Racing Series events.
