HERBERT QUALIFIES FOR TOUGH U.S. NATIONALS FIELD
INDIANAPOLIS (September 2, 2007) Qualifying for the 53rd annual U.S. Nationals came to a close on Sunday evening with Doug Herbert, driver of the Snap-on Tools Top Fuel dragster, sitting in the No. 11 position.
Herbert's fastest pass of the weekend came on Saturday evening in the third of five qualifying sessions. The Snap-on dragster passed through the lights with in 4.56 seconds at 308.92 mph.
Sunday's qualifying sessions took place under a cloudless sky as the sun beat down on the quarter-mile racing surface. The hot track proved to be too much for many of the Top Fuel rails as they succumbed to tire smoke, but Herbert and the Snap-on Tools dragster made it down the track with solid passes (4.66 and 4.61 seconds, consecutively) on each run.
"We have one of the most consistently fast cars out here this weekend," said Herbert, "with good times on every run. We have a good car that can win Indy.
"We will be up against the guy we put on the trailer last week in Reading, and we are going to do everything we can to make it happen again."
Herbert will face Rod Fuller in the opening round of eliminations.
