Top 16 eludes Team Marine Cavalier.
JOLIET, Ill. -- On Friday, in the opening qualifying session of the NHRA Chicagoland Dodge Dealers Nationals at Route 66 Raceway, qualifying problems continued for the Team Marine Cavalier of Larry Nance. The event is the 10th of 23 races on the NHRA POWERade® Drag Racing Series.
Nance , from Akron, Ohio, was forced to abort his first run when tire shake forced him out of the groove. He rebounded in the second session by running a respectable 6.948 second pass, good for 26th when Friday's qualifying ended. He must now rely on his Saturday elapsed times to earn his way into the 16-car field that will enter Sunday's eliminations.
On Saturday, it was hot and humid. With temperatures over the 90 degree mark, times took a nose dive, especially from the elapsed times (E.T.) recorded on Friday night. In the first session Nance was once again forced to shut down and was down to one final qualifying session to become part of Sunday's eliminations.
Nance ran respectable in the final session but failed to make the final 16. As a result, Larry Nance and the Team Marine Chevrolet Cavalier now move to the Columbus, Ohio area for the NHRA Pontiac Excitement Nationals presented by Summit Racing. The event will take place June 13-16 at National Trail Raceway in Kirkersville, Ohio.
