Densham praises team for patience
NORWALK, Ohio (June 27) - Being down on your luck can take a toll on a drag racing team. But Funny Car driver Gary Densham is amazed at how his team continues to fight the fight, week after week with a positive attitude.
"I have never worked with a better bunch of guys in my life," Densham said. "No one ever points the finger of blame, nobody complains. I might not have had a lot of luck on the track lately, but I'm fortunate to have such great support from our team members in the pit. I thank my lucky stars every day that I have these talented, compassionate fellows cheering me on.
This weekend's Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals event is new to the 2007 schedule this year but the track is a familiar one to the veteran Funny Car driver and former school teacher.
"We've been here before," Densham said. "We've competed and won their big night of fire event a few years back and we've had success in other events here too. They've made a lot of improvements to the facilities for both the race teams and the fans and I can't wait to see our hot rod performs."
The Torco Racing Fuels/Racebricks Collectibles team is looking forward to a successful Friday night qualifying session.
"Our Chevy Impala runs best at night," Densham said. "We're hoping to make a good, clean pass Friday under the lights and put down some good numbers. We've had too many disappointments in round two of qualifying and it's time to turn that around.
"Of course, weather always play a critical role with the tune-up. It must have been 100 degrees when we got here Tuesday, so I hope for everybody's sake that this heat-wave breaks and we don't have to do battle with mother nature too."
