Pomona, Post-Race: Elimination day of the CARQUEST Winternationals dawned with rain filled skies, a fitting beginning to what would be a disappointing day for Doug Herbert and the Snap-on Tools team.
The steady rain caused only a slight delay in racing action, and the 2007 NHRA POWERade season began.
Facing "Hot Rod" Fuller in the opening round, Herbert and team prepared to begin their march in the Countdown to the Championship.
Leading by a thousandth of a second, or the equivalent of a car length at the 1/8 mile, Herbert looked set to take the win, but a parts failure pu the Snap-on Tools team back on the trailer preparing for the next race in Phoenix instead of 2nd round action.
"We had the car to win, but a parts failure kept it from happening. There's not much else to say about it," Herbert said. "We'll fix it and be ready to win in Phoenix.
