Morgan moving up Pro Stock ranks as Lucas Oil Mustang improves
READING, Pa. (Oct. 7) -- Larry Morgan is confident he can end the 2010 Full Throttle Drag Racing Series with a strong push, because now he can to focus more on his driving rather than what calamity was around the next corner.
It was a summer dotted with frustration for Morgan and the Lucas Oil Ford Mustang Pro Stock car as Morgan was getting the blue oval's program re-launched for the first time in more than two decades. Parts failures were a regular visitor.
But after countless exhaustive hours at his Newark, Ohio, engine shop, Morgan is headed into this weekend's 26th annual Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals with a fast car that isn't a worry when it gets to the track.
Last time out, Morgan qualified No. 4 and advanced to the second round, which was his best outing since the season opener in Pomona back in February.
"I'm going to do way better than I did last race," a confident Morgan said. "I want more of that. I hope we have our act together and I can shift on time so I don't get chewed out by my wife.
"We put the engine on the dyno and it's looking good. We've run well at Maple Grove in the past and we're excited to get back there and race."
